Dear IDPF members,
As a longtime production technologist in the digital content space, I feel I can
add a unique and necessary perspective to the IDPF board as the industry grows
and evolves. In my current role at codeMantra, I have been building data
conversion workflows for legacy content as well as building technology enabling
XML-based production as well as digital asset management, metadata management,
and digital content distribution. All of these initiatives have a single goal in
focus: to provide publishers with the necessary tools to generate awareness and
monetize the digital versions of their content.
Previous to codeMantra, I spent six years at NetLibrary (a division of OCLC)
building and managing their production system to handle OEBPS format content as
well as PDF. As this was at the very early stages of the eBook industry, this
process was a challenge to manage both the production requirements of publishers
as well as understand the swiftly-moving target of formats and functionality.
Today, the NetLibrary system has over 100,000 eBooks that were all created
through these production systems.
From my perspective, in order to have the full adoption of the efforts of the
IDPF, we also need to look carefully at the production requirements of any
initiative and standard we produce. It can be agreed that the IDPF is making
some great strides, and we need to understand and consider what the impact is on
current and future production systems to support these initiatives. I can bring
this perspective to the board along with my understanding of the digital
distribution industry and add significant value to the efforts of the IDPF.
I would like to request that you consider me for the open Board position in
regards to this value I can bring.
Thanks for your consideration.
